A threadlift is a treatment which lifts and tightens sagging skin tissue using threads made of PDO. PDO stands for polydioxanone and is a synthetic absorbable surgical suture proven to be one of safest materials to be implanted in the body. The threads are introduced into the deeper layers of the skin and do three things:
· Instant Skin lifting
· Cellular renewal through collagen stimulation and neovascularization to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity.
· Skin tightening by contracting fat tissue.
Threads take about four to six months to be absorbed by the body and the results last anywhere from twelve to eighteen months. The treatment takes about an hour and is not painful, local anesthesia is used to minimize any discomfort. Patients can expect minor swelling and bruising after the procedure for a few days but there is no “down-time” per se. Daily activities can be immediately resumed but one should avoid strenuous/vigorous exercise for one week and facial massage for two weeks.
Who is a good candidate for a Threadlift?
Anyone who is looking to avoid a surgical facelift and wants to improve the texture and sagginess of the skin, including the face and neck. It is especially effective for patients with mild to moderate sagging in the lower third of the face and those who want to improve fine lines and wrinkles, specifically on the both side of cheeks.
How does it work?
The PDO threads create an inflammatory response which causes collagen production and the inflammatory response also causes fibrosis which can tighten the tissue. The threads come in different lengths and weights and are selected by the provider based on the patients’ needs and goals. Patients will see and instantaneous lift of the loose facial skin and an overall improvement of the elasticity of the skin.
